The U.S. state of Alabama isn’t exactly Democrat territory. Donald Trump won Alabama in 2020 by more than 26%. A little under a year ago, there was a NASCAR race at the Talledega Speedway in Alabama. The crowd at the race started to chant, “Fuck Joe Biden”. An NBC reporter at the race, while interviewing the race winner Brandon Brown, described the chants as “Let’s Go Brandon” to sanitize the chant for the viewing audience. The translation stuck, and it’s been used to tell Mr. Biden to fuck off ever since.
But, in a political, "get off my lawn" moment, Mr. Biden is fighting back. People are wondering what’s gotten into Joe Biden. Okay, I’m wondering. A few items to consider:
1) Nancy Pelosi, the majority House leader, recently visited Taiwan. China views anything that suggests Taiwan is a sovereign state as tantamount to an act of war. To the point of staging war games in the vicinity of Taiwan right after her visit, violating Taiwan’s air space and ocean territory. There’s no way Ms. Pelosi goes to Taiwan without Mr. Biden’s approval.
2) While stumping for the upcoming mid-term elections, Mr. Biden called Republicans that support Donald Trump “semi-fascists”. He’s also branded them “MAGA Republicans”, referencing Mr. Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.
3) The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, picked up this theme in her August 26th press briefing. Except she dropped the “semi” from her take on MAGA Republicans:
“I was very clear when — when laying out and defining what, you know, MAGA Republicans have done. And you look at the definition of “fascism,” and you think about what they’re doing in attacking our democracy, what they’re doing in taking away our freedoms, taking away — wanting to take away our rights, our voting rights. I mean, that is what that is; it is very clear. And that’s why he made that — that — that powerful speech that you heard from him last night.”
4) Mr. Biden just granted approximately 45 million Americans a $10,000 reprieve from their student debt. While generally seen as a drop in the bucket for most students, many of whom have debt in excess of $100,000, it’s caused many Republicans to go ballistic, yelling that hard working Americans shouldn’t have to subsidize woke-liberal coffee-drinking intellectuals. But The White House has a new social media director named Megan Coyne. She helped the governor of New Jersey get elected, and now she’s plying her craft for Joe Biden. She came back with a scathing Tweet dealing with the Republicans complaining about the subsidy:

PPP loans are from the Paycheck Protection Program where business payrolls were subsidized to help keep businesses solvent during Covid.
So Mr. Biden is finally stepping up to the podium and saying he’s not going to take the Republican B.S. anymore. He’s using language that people understand, and pointing out the hypocrisy rampant in politics these days.
It’s taken more than 18 months, but Mr. Biden, the great negotiator, the compromiser, the ‘get agreement when no agreement can be done’ guy, finally has admitted to himself that there’s no negotiating with the Republican party, which should be renamed the Party of Trump (POT). Fealty to Mr. Trump is the only thing that counts for Republicans. They vote “no” on almost every piece of legislation proposed by Mr. Biden. It’s time for Mr. Biden to get down in the mud. With all due respect to Michelle Obama’s desire that “when they go low, we go high”, Republicans don’t understand that. Sometimes, when you don’t make the rules, you need to learn their rules, and beat them at their own game.
I think Mr. Biden has learned the rules.
- Branding. Re-brand the Republicans as "MAGA Republicans". Mr. Trump called Marco Rubio "little Marco", mainstream media as "fake news" etc. Branding is essential these days.
- Hit 'em where it hurts, in the pocket book. Point out the hypocrisy of members of Congress getting payroll loans while condemning student loan forgiveness. I'll leave why members of Congress would even qualify for these types of loans for another day.
- Calling it like it is. Fascism is fascism. No more mincing of words.
The interweb has even picked up on this by calling him “Dark Brandon” with his new found attitude. Lesson learned.
And, just because...
